Pajovic & Co. win by two but the Slovenian success was never in doubt.

Slovenia defeated Montenegro in the first match of Main Round Group I. The winners save chances for Olympic qualification places.
The match between the rivals for Olympic qualifications started with six missed attacks. The players were anxious on both sides and the first goal was scored in the fourth minute by Slovenian Uros Zorman.
The aggressive Slovenian 6-0 defensive formation was too much for the Montenegrins. They were too far away from the goal and the second best scorer in the tournament, Alen Muratovic, was lost. He played only until the 10th minute.
Slovenia had the initiative all first half especially with their superb playmaker, Uros Zorman, who opened spaces for his teammates.
It was already plus five in the 20th minute. Only Drasko Mrvaljevic, Zoran Roganovic and Aleksander Svilica were able to score. There were some nice saves on both ends – Montenegrin Goran Stojanovic saved five shots by the 7th minute, while Slovenian Beno Lapajne also stopped some good shoots. Halftime finished 16:13 for the Slovenians...
Although Montenegro came closer with three quick goals by Djurkovic and Kapisoda at the beginning of the second half, they did not have a chance to win.
There were ups and downs on the Slovenian side, but they were the better team throughout the whole match. With Gorazd Skof in the goal the difference was always at least two goals. Though Muratovic woke up by the end of the game, he could not save his team. |
