Handball News (22/01/2008) Poland spoil Norway's party |
The Poles have put a stop to the Euro hosts' winning streak with a draw in Stavanger.
The Euro 2008 hosts started the tournament with three straight wins.
And a fourth against Poland would put them in pole position for a semi-final place.
After Poland had the initiative for most of the first half, the Norwegians turned the match around in the last minute.
In the second half it looked to be heading in Norway’s direction.
At the most they were four goals in front.
But Poland never gave up and closed the gap and two minutes from time they were level.
The match ended 24-24.
It was a highly dramatic match with four red cards.
Frode Hagen and Grzegorz Tkaczyk both got three two minutes suspensions, while Johnny Jensen and Tomasz Tluczynski both were shown a direct red card after a clash nine minutes from the end.
Kjetil Strand scored nine goals for Norway while Marcin Lijewski was top scorer for Poland with eight.
Now Norway are leading Group I with five points, one point more than Croatia and Denmark.
On Wednesday Norway play Slovenia while Poland take on Denmark. |
