Handball News (24/01/2008) Poles notch up third victory |
A third victory for Poland against the European Championship debutants, Montenegro.
Poland 39:23 Montenegro (19:13)
The fact that the match between Montenegro and Poland that was not of high importance was borne out in the quality of the match.
However, the Poles managed their third victory at Euro 2008.
Their opponents in their last round match in Group I were only equal to the challenge in the opening minutes of the match.
Once they reached 6:4 in the 11 minute, the European Championship debutants, Montenegro, could not keep up with the World Championship runners up.
Their coach Ranko Popovic tried different defensive formations but Jurasik, Bielecki and co. were too strong.
A series of six goals without reply, from the 14 to the 18 minute was enough for Poland and they were able to take off their stars, Bielecki and Tkaczyk.
The Montenegrians tried their best to get themselves back into the match with some quick attacks through Kapisoda and Roganovic but they were not terribly successful.
They missed 12 shots (Poland ten) and made eight technical mistakes (Poland six).
The match died in the second half, only the young Polish-hope Mateusz Jachlewski showed that he could be an important player in the next few years to come.
Montenegro were obviously exhausted, Alen Muratovic was powerless, though another youngster Zarko Markovic played well.
Montenegro made a great start to their international handball career and will be a dangerous team in the future.
For the Poles, a wait to see how the next two matches go, and whether they will have a chance of playing for the fifth place at Euro 2008 in Lillehammer. |
